When Reed Exhibitions came to us to help with the launch of a new consumer event for Outside Magazine, we were very excited. The idea of featuring pedal-assist electric bikes with Bosch as the primary sponsor meant that we could develop an indoor test track that featured a number of different structures designed to highlight the capabilities of the different electric bike models.
We created a design that included two different hills that would highlight the climbing power of the electric drives and give riders a chance to feel the power that these bikes could offer. As part of our effort, we conceptualized the track layout within the given space, designed and engineered the two different hills and then we constructed the components to work with local rental equipment vendors in the Chicago area. We transported everything to the convention center and oversaw the installation and dismantle. With the volume of consumer interest, the staffing needs required a larger call that included top executives from Reed to join in and get consumers riding. Even with fly fishing, ax throwing, rappelling, kayaking, running and camping pavilions, we had more than 2000 test rides over the two days. Both Outside Magazine and Reed Exhibitions are planning for the event's return in July 2020.
